SWARA Community Arts Center was established in Petaling Jaya in 2014 by the Malaysian sitarist Samuel J. Dass, as a place to learn, perform and share Indian classical music.
The center offers training in Hindustani and Carnatic music for children and adults, from first lessons to advanced study. Classes are taught by experienced performing musicians, and the music is passed on the way it always has been, patiently, from teacher to student, over years.
SWARA is grounded in the Indian classical tradition, and it is open to every Malaysian. In its classrooms and on its stages, people from across the country learn and perform side by side, and the music becomes common ground.
